we believe teenagers will change the world
our mission.
We partner with teens and their families to strengthen connection,
enhance self-understanding, and cultivate compassion.
Through individual & group therapy and collaborative parent workshops
we provide an environment for teens in which their development is understood,
their challenges are validated and their stories are celebrated.
Our work is intentional & embodied and is centered on inclusion and acceptance.

our values.
everyone belongs.
As people and professionals we are committed to supporting all identities.
we work hard to embody policies & practices that actively promote anti-racism. We promote body neutrality
there’s always more to learn
We are committed to learning and believe there is always more to know about ourselves, others, and the world. We believe YOU are the expert on your own life & view ourselves as learners and partners in the process of exploration.
non-pathologizing
There’s nothing wrong with you. we believe that everyone (yes.. everyone) is doing the best they can with the support & resources at their disposal. You. Are. Enough.
our why.
Adolescents are experiencing a level of distress that calls on us to act quickly and with care.
Over the past decade the percentage of teens experiencing depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts has skyrocketed.
Richmond Teen Therapy was built as a response to the very real needs of teens and the lack of resources available to support the nuanced and unique experience of adolescence.
We provide counseling for teens rooted deeply in the developmental stage of teens.
by the numbers.
According to the CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey conducted in 2021:
⟡42% of high school students report feeling sad and hopeless
⟡ 57% (nearly 3 in 5) U.S. teen girls reported feeling persistently sad or hopeless—double that of boys
⟡ 52% of LGBQ+ teens surveyed had recently experienced poor mental health and more than
1 in 5 (22%) had attempted suicide in the past year

why choose us.
teen centered
We specialize and work solely with pre-teens (10-12) and adolescents (13-18). This makes us uniquely positions to understand the lived experience, perception and mental health needs of teens in today’s world.
We have unique training and expertise that enhances understanding and supports engagement of teens.
expression
& somatic
With training in expressive therapies (including play therapy, sand tray therapy, therapeutic journaling and expressive arts) as well as yoga and mindfulness, we have a unique toolbox with which to support youth that incorporates both mind AND body.
strengths - based
We don’t see adolescents as a problem. Firmly rejecting the notion that they are "just teenagers," we recognize the depth and uniqueness of this developmental stage. We view teens as whole individuals experiencing a wide range of emotions who are still learning the skills (and building the brains!) to cope.
